When Tara Conner puts her tiara back on, she'll have a clean, dry surface on which to place it.

The reigning Miss USA checked out of a Pennsylvania rehab facility Sunday and is back at her Trump Place apartment, a rep for the Miss Universe Organization confirmed.

Spokeswoman Lark-Marie Anton, however, denied a report that Conner was planning on attending a welcome back party at NYC nightspot Stereo, a locale where the 21-year-old was once spotted consuming alcohol and engaging in other behavior unbecoming of a pageant winner.

"Right now she's just going to get used to being out," a source close to the situation told the New York Daily News. "She needs some time to breathe."

After almost losing her crown last month in the wake of reports that chronicled her underage hard-partying ways, Conner, who has denied being an alcoholic, spent the past few weeks mulling over where she went wrong at the Caron Foundation in Wernersville, Pennsylvania.

Miss Universe co-owner Donald Trump, who deigned to give Conner a second chance if she promised to enter rehab to get herself straightened out, predicted that the Kentucky native would be the "great comeback kid."

"You'll never know how much I appreciate Mr. Trump for saving me on this one," Conner said after the press conference in which Trump chose not to utter his trademark phrase. "He could have said 'You're Fired'—he's a very, very compassionate person."

That's not exactly how Rosie O'Donnell put it, but...Now it's up to Conner to prove Trump right.

In what has been an oddly eventful year for the Miss Universe Organization, the Conner situation kicked off a series of scandals that has resulted in at least one dropped endorsement deal and two dropped beauty queens.

Spotted canoodling with Conner as she made the Manhattan nightclub circuit was Miss Teen USA Katie Blair, 18, who was allowed to keep her crown but was booted by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, which no longer considered her an "effective spokesperson on underage drinking."

Then, that same week, naughty pictures surfaced on the Internet depicting Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees in some party-hearty poses, a snafu that led to her dismissal. The 22-year-old has since proved that to reign isn't always to win, signing a $2 million deal to host the sex-charged Beacher's Madhouse revue when it returns to Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in March.

And then, since these things apparently happen in, well, fours, Miss New Jersey USA Ashley Harder, 20, resigned after announcing that she was expecting a child with her boyfriend. Participants in the Miss USA Pageant, which will take place Mar. 23 without Harder and Rees, are not allowed to be pregnant or married or to have children

The Case Against Jacob The Jeweler

The Case Against Jacob The Jeweler
Prosecutors detail money laundering rap against King of Bling
JANUARY 23--Details of the criminal case against Jacob the Jeweler, the entertainment world's so-called King of Bling, have emerged in a new government filing that portrays the businessman as an active participant in a money laundering scheme hatched by members of Detroit's Black Mafia Family drug gang. Jacob Arabov, federal prosecutors allege, helped launder millions for BMF members, fabricated IRS documents, and conspired with gang members to cover up their illegal actions. The case against Arabov, 41, is detailed for the first time in a brief filed last week in U.S. District Court in Detroit. An excerpt from that document can be found below. According to prosecutors, testimony about Arabov's dealings with BMF has come from six sources, including four men who have pleaded guilty to related drug and money laundering charges. But the key witness against Arabov (pictured at right with Sean Combs) may be Damon Thomas, an A-list music producer who, as one half of the Underdogs, has worked with Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and Mary J. Blige. Thomas also recently co-produced the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack album and will soon enter the studio to record Whitney Houston's comeback album. According to the government brief, Thomas initially balked at testifying last May, but relented when presented with a judicial compulsion order. Thomas then told grand jurors that he met Arabov in 2004 through BMF leader Terry Flenory, who fashions himself as a music manager. During a 2005 meeting at Arabov's residence, Thomas testified, he agreed to sign a fraudulent document (prepared by the jeweler) in a bid to help recover about $1 million in jewelry that had been seized from BMF leaders during a police traffic stop. He also testified that other documents prepared by Arabov and presented to federal drug agents were misleading or "completely false." Arabov, who has been accused of failing to report to the Internal Revenue Service cash transactions exceeding $10,000, faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted of money laundering. According to government witnesses, BMF members initially drove to New York from Detroit to deliver cash to Arabov at his Manhattan office, where they purchased items like a $300,000 pinky ring. But since Arabov's wife did not like the large BMF posse in the jewelry store, Arabov "began meeting Terry [Flenory] in hotel rooms," according to BMF member Eric Bivens, who is quoted in the government filing. Marc Whaley, a businessman who has pleaded guilty to felony charges and is cooperating with prosecutors, told investigators that he met with Arabov in mid-2004 as part of a BMF scheme to launder $293,000 used to purchase jewelry. The money was to be washed through his checking account, Whaley said, adding that Arabov told him that "the government was on his back" and he could not "take any more large amounts of cash." Charles Parson, a convicted BMF courier, has told federal agents that he delivered money on Flenory's behalf to Arabov's store, where he turned over the cash to the jeweler in a private office. "Parson said he was never given a receipt, signed any documents, or observed anyone count the money," reported prosecutors.

Sex workers are no longer culprits. They are victims.

With an Indian Parliamentary panel giving its in-principle nod to proposed amendments in the law against flesh trade, women found soliciting for prostitution will be treated as victims rather than culprits and the focus will be on taking action against pimps and agents.

The Parliamentary committee, which is studying the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Amendment Bill of 2006 that was tabled in the last session of Parliament, has agreed in-principle for removing Section 8 of the law to protect women from further victimisation.

Section 8 of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act of 1956 deals with seducing or soliciting for prostitution and there have been complaints that it has been routinely misused by police and that the maximum number of arrests are made under it.

The panel, headed by Congress MP Janardan Dwivedi, observed in its report on the amendment bill that this has resulted in the harassment and punishment of sex workers instead of conviction of perpetrators of crimes, traffickers and pimps.

"However, the Committee recommends that a suitable clause may be added in the Bill itself to take action against the pimps, procurers, perpetrators, agents and other exploiters with self-interest, for soliciting," the panel said in its report.

The panel, however, took note of reservations on deletion of Section 8 raised by Delhi and a few states like Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan and noted that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is also not in favour of such a move.

Paris Hilton and Jenna Jameson

Paris Hilton & Jenna Jameson tread on ‘Virgin territory’!

Washington, Jan 25: Though hotel heiress Paris Hilton and porn queen Jenna Jameson may almost seem alien to the concept of virginity but the duo is currently bracing up for a reality show called "Virgin Territory."

Hilton and Jameson have been contacted about "participating" in a reality show currently in production called "Virgin Territory," in which a group of the uninitiated will find their way to the promised land.

Ironically, it`s being brought to TV by the purveyor of Paris` sex tape, Kevin Blatt, who predicts that even more people will watch "Territory" than "One Night in Paris," Hilton`s infamous night-visioned romp.

According to Contactmusic, Blatt will be unveiling giant billboards in Times Square and Los Angeles; soliciting actual, live virgins in those cities.

"Finding virgins in NYC or Los Angeles is no easy task," says Blatt.

Indecent: How I Make It and Fake It as a Girl for Hire
by Sarah Katherine Lewis

Seal, 256 pp., $14.95

What exactly is the catalyst that makes a woman seek out the sex industry? For Sarah Katherine Lewis, it was a lingering curiosity left over from a televised cop drama, coupled with a desire to stop schlepping coffee. This measure, born not out of desperation but a genuine inquisitiveness, eventually does two things for her: One, it immediately removes any of the clichés of victimization and drug-induced decision-making commonly associated with prostitution. Two, it puts her in complete control of her journey. In Indecent: How I Make It and Fake It as a Girl for Hire, her convincing ownership of her actions – plus a mean sense of humor – give Lewis the tools and humility to take this adventure, bind it, and deliver it to readers as an unabashed peek into a heavily guarded subculture.

She opens with applying for a job at a lingerie-modeling tanning salon, which, in her naivete, she figured for a tanning salon that actually sold lingerie. Her amateur porn career came about shortly thereafter, when, in one afternoon, she went from taking nude photos to taking men in her mouth on film. As she traversed from point A to point XXX, we read about her working the pole as a stripper, fighting for her right to a clean workspace as she works the sex window in a peep show, trying her "hand" at massage relief in a twisted astral massage parlor, and becoming a sex worker-cum-autobiographer. She pulls no punches in any of these stories. From the embarrassing to the awful, we get to read it all.

Though her tone is light, her acceptance of herself and the women around her is fierce. She lingers a lot on the camaraderie – and, in some cases, lack thereof – among the women she works with and the women she works for. As she moves from job to job, her adventures in the adult world and her experiences with customers get raunchier and funnier. This makes up the meat of the book: a series of encounters highlighting depravities that seem to worsen, both in description and implication.

As Lewis writes it, it's easy to pity the men she services. But as she learns the ropes, these tales become less about them and more about how easy it is to emasculate both their wallets and their manhood. Their merit to get ripped off is apparently in line with the depth of their individual perversions. We read of men being asked to lick very unclean strip-booth windows, men who have their fantasies openly mocked, and men who get ripped off on a stripper's whim. This is charted by the map of Lewis' journey, revealing a clear shift in her voice: from being innocently curious to looking for adventure while making ends meet to jaded and hardened sex-vet fantasizing about killing her clients. "I could almost feel his spinal cartilage popping under my fist as I slammed the knife home," she writes, "could almost hear the whistle of his collapsing lung."

It is page-turning, to say the least, as she addresses, in detail, many of the questions about what really happens out in the sex-trade underworld, from Crock-Pots of hand-job lotion to the best angles for penetrative shots to the hazards of hand cuts. But the memoir eventually becomes as painful to read as it is to put down. The dangers, physically and emotionally, are always very close at hand, and one thing Lewis doesn't do is gloss over them. It's easy to like the person Lewis writes herself out to be, and it's hard to take when things get ugly for her.

Still, in the end, we find Lewis wrapping up the last chapters much too quickly and without solid closure. As much as she reveals, there's twice as much left out. The gaps in the story filter out her family, love life, and friends. For someone who comes across as smart as a whip, there doesn't seem to be a master plan at work here. Maybe that's the key. Since there was never a road map to reference – no "guidance counselor for the sex trade" available for career advice – maybe her lack of a plan is the plan. Perhaps she's concocting her own happy ending. If we've paid attention, we'd know that the best weapon a girl in her stilettos has isn't what she shares, but what she doesn't.

Councils funding brothel spies
By Sharri Markson
January 21, 2007

SYDNEY councils are paying private detectives thousands of dollars to have sex with prostitutes so they can gather sufficient proof against illegal brothels.
Nine councils across Sydney have forked out $25,000 in fees to private investigators over the past three years.

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that Ku-ring-gai Council spent $7000 in the past month employing detectives to have sex with prostitutes.

Ku-ring-gai Mayor Nick Ebbeck said the extreme measures were necessary to prove the businesses were illegal.

"We, like many other councils, have made a decision to pro-actively rid our community of these illegal brothels," he said.

"We have to employ private investigators to actually go through with the act and come up with reports that will suffice in a court process.

"On numerous occasions over numerous days and times they had to fulfil the act.

"The only difference between us closing down an illegal panel beating shop and a brothel is we must prove they are doing the act and this is where it gets interesting."

The evidence given by the investigators proved successful in shutting two brothels this month.

The council is now employing private investigators, at a cost of about $3500 a case, to look into at least five more premises. The investigators provide an affidavit and a detailed account of the sexual transaction and occasionally a video recording.

In a graphic report obtained by The Sunday Telegraph, one detective claimed that premises at 100 Pacific Highway, Roseville, was charging $70 for a half hour "all inclusive full service".

"Once the sex was over I was told that if I came back next week I would only have to pay $60 for a half hour sex (sic) instead of $70," the document said. Concerns over the onus of proof were first raised five years ago. But attempts to change the legislation in NSW Parliament failed after the Labor Government voted against it.

At Willoughby Council, private detectives were paid $1500 for two visits to prostitutes at the one brothel this month.

Willoughby Council environmental services director Greg Woodhams said the council solicitor handled these investigations.

"Over the last couple of weeks we have successfully had a premises vacated on Willoughby Rd," Mr Woodhams said.

"The difficulty is gaining evidence to make a case to the Land and Environment Court.

"In each year, it could be potentially tens of thousands of dollars in private investigators and legal costs that councils have to bear," he said.

North Sydney Council has paid $4800 in investigators' fees to shut down three illegal brothels, with the third case due in the Land and Environment Court next month.

Sutherland Shire Council paid $800 for a private investigator to investigate an illegal brothel in October last year.

The Community Protection Closure of Illegal Brothels Bill was introduced by former Opposition leader John Brogden and debated in June, 2002, but failed under the Carr Government.

Liberal MP for Goulburn Peta Seaton introduced a new version of the Private Members Bill in 2003 but again it was defeated.

In a third attempt at changing the law, Ms Seaton re-introduced the bill in October 2006 but only progressed to a second reading.

Opposition Leader Peter Debnam told The Sunday Telegraph he would introduce legislation putting the onus of proof back on to brothel operators if he won government in the next election.
